Tiger moth
Sketch and colour treatment study for a future tiger moth illustration. I found this recently dead moth near my house and thought it would make a nice illustration one day.
I prefer to sketch and understand creatures from life—rather than photographs—if I can, but I don't like to kill or bother anything in order to draw it. For creatures like this one, therefore, I have to be very quick to try to capture it before it moves on, or take advantage of its natural death.

Moth
A little sketch of the underside of a moth as it rested on the window. From memory, these moths have a completely different upperside that is finely pattered and resembles rough, grey bark. Watercolor and a bit of pencil on paper. I felt quite privileged to see its secret, colourful underside.
